MGTI's programs derive from the American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE) Series 6000 Professional Qualifications Standard for Medical Gas Systems Personnel, emphasizing knowledge, skill, experience, training, and competencies for medical gas system personnel. The programs are based on the code requirements of NFPA 99, Health Care Facilities Code. MGTI examines against the most recent edition of the code — examinations are currently written to the 2024 edition.
Certification addresses design, installation, inspection, testing, verification, and maintenance of medical gas and vacuum systems. Topics include general knowledge, applications, components, operating principles, pipeline installation, brazing, testing procedures, safety precautions, troubleshooting, and routine maintenance.
Every ASSE Series 6000 certification requires documented work experience, completion of a training course, and a passing score on the certification examination. Experience prerequisites are verified by your attestation on the Program Application, and attestations are subject to audit by MGTI.
Training is approved when it is delivered by an instructor holding current ASSE 6050 certification (ASSE 6055 for the bulk cryogenic certifications). MGTI verifies two things: that the instructor's certification was current when the training was delivered, and that you completed the training. Where both are evidenced, the training is approved — whoever delivered it. You are not required to take MGTI's own course, or any particular provider's course. See Training Providers.
