MGTI certifications are valid for three years. The recertification programs enable
certified professionals to maintain their credential status based on current code
editions including NFPA 99, NFPA 55, and CGA M-1.
Why three years. ASSE Series 6000 requires recertification against
subsequent editions of NFPA 99, and NFPA 99 is issued on a three-year cycle. A
three-year certification period therefore tracks the code cycle, so that a certified
person is never more than one edition of the governing code behind current practice.
The recertification course and examination are based on subsequent editions of
industry codes and standards, changes in technology, and other changes in industry
practice since your last certification. Recertification examinations may be
written or electronic, are open book, and are not proctored.
MGTI may send email notices of pending expiration. However, you are solely
responsible for keeping your certification current. Keep your contact
information up to date; MGTI is not responsible for communications not received due to
incorrect contact information in your record. Current renewal applications and pricing

Minimum passing scores are set by the ASSE Series 6000 Standard and are stated in the
candidate handbook issued for your certification. Confirm the score for your
certification in your handbook before you sit the examination.
Your ASME IX brazing qualification does not expire on a cycle. It
remains in effect for as long as you continue to use the qualified procedure and that
use is documented. It lapses only when continuity is broken.
You must document that you have performed a brazed joint using the qualified
procedure at intervals not exceeding six (6) months. Keeping that log is your
responsibility. At renewal you provide the dates and witnesses for brazing performed
over the preceding three years.
If you have not kept your continuity documentation up to date, you will need
to retest when you renew. Because the brazing qualification and the ASSE
certification run on different clocks, you may hold a current brazing qualification
alongside a lapsed certification, or the reverse.
MGTI accepts valid ASSE 6000 certifications from other third-party certification
agencies. Approved transfers require completion of MGTI's recertification program.
Applications must include:
- Current certification documentation from the originating agency
- Brazing continuity proof (for installers and brazers)
A person transferring a current ASSE 6010 certification may bring with it the brazing
qualification held under the issuing body's procedure. MGTI recognizes that
qualification; it does not adopt, reissue, or re-badge it — it remains a
qualification made under the issuing body's procedure and record, and it must continue
to be maintained under the six-month continuity rule above. A transferred qualification
whose continuity log has lapsed is not current, and MGTI does not treat it as current.
A new ASSE 6010 certification is different. MGTI does not accept a
brazing qualification obtained elsewhere in place of its own for the purpose of
issuing a new MGTI ASSE 6010 certification. A candidate seeking ASSE 6010 from MGTI
performs the brazing qualification under MGTI's own Brazing Procedure Specification.
